From the Back Cover
Sometimes a real hero lets you save yourself . . .
Sayer Cole and Zeb Fuller couldn’t be more different. She’s country club and fine-dining, he’s cell-block and sawdust. Sayer spends her days in litigation while Zeb spends his working with his hands. But none of that has stopped Zeb from wanting the stunning blonde since the moment he laid eyes on her—even if the reserved lawyer seems determinedly oblivious to his interest.
Sayer is certain the rough, hard, hot-as-hell Zeb could never want someone as closed off and restrained as she is, which is a shame because something tells her he might be the guy to finally melt her icy exterior. When he shows up at Sayer’s door needing her professional help, she’s both disappointed and relieved that she won’t get the chance to find out just how good he could be.
But as they team up to right a wrong and save a family, the steam created when fire and ice collide cannot be ignored.

She loves music and wishes she could be a rock star, but since she has no aptitude for singing or instrument playing, she’ll settle for writing stories with interesting characters that make the reader feel something. She lives in Colorado with her three dogs.

Long and winding
By Luisa Rivas Martinez
A wonderful story and wonderful characters. The author made a great job in defining the characters and their situations and issues. The development and overcoming of their issues is also well described. Loved little Hyde, he was such a wonderful kid. My only problem is that there were many long paragraphs where the author winded long and extensively about their issues and it got boring for me. So much wording made the book move along slowly, so I had to resort to my usual method, skim and scan to get ahead on the story. I gave it 3 stars because like my books fast paced, even though I liked the story and all the characters. Also, this is the first book in a series, yet there are a lot of characters from a previous series involved in this book, and you do get the impression that you are missing pieces of a story.

Zeb is seriously one of my favorite Crownover heroes since Rule
By Beverly
Built is the first story in the Saints of Denver Series. If you were a fan of the Marked Men Series you met Sayer, she is Rowdy’s sister and a family lawyer. Zeb is a friend of the guys and works restoring houses.
Zeb isn’t the type of guy Sayer would normally be into, he has been prison, has tattoos and is used to manual labor. Sayer is prim and proper and comes from a wealthy family. Zeb completely expects Sayer to judge him and look down on him, so when she doesn’t he is completely taken back. While Sayer may come from a different background she isn’t judgmental and turns out she is also incredibly attracted to Zeb.
The two of them spend a lot of time together while he restores the older home she purchased, and the story picks up 6 months later. Now Zeb is back and needing Sayer’s help and while the attraction is still there for both of them they have to put that aside to focus on the issues that brought them together.
Zeb is seriously one of my favorite Crownover heroes since Rule. I loved him so freaking much. He was direct and honest, and I loved that he was open about his expectations and his feelings. I love how he immediately opened his heart up and was accepting. I loved how he saw the best in people. He has so many “sweet” qualities that you would think he would be soft, but he isn’t. He is also sexy as sin and not afraid to get down and dirty.
I can definitely see Sayer not being for everyone, but I actually really liked it her as well. I liked that she was honest and up front with Zeb and didn’t play games. She has her issues and short comings, but she was aware of her issues and didn’t want to hurt Zeb. She is selfless and compassionate. She truly cares about Zeb and I could tell that while she didn’t always do what I would have wanted her to, she was always trying.
Built is seriously a fantastic start this series and I cannot wait to see what comes next. It’s nice to see the Marked Men, but I loved the new characters introduced and I feel this series is going to be awesome!

I didn't love this one, but I'm looking forward to the rest of the series!

“…there was no way I was going to build anything that wasn’t one hundred percent indestructible even if that meant getting in there and knocking down some walls and pulling up some of the existing structure. Sayer Cole was a project I couldn’t wait to get my hands on.”
Jay Crownover introduces a new series with Built, a new set of characters, a new setting, but the same heart. Jeb and Sayer’s story shows two characters who overcome their past and present hardships to build a future from something solid that will last. Jeb, with his capable hands, takes Sayer and all her damaged parts and tries to restore the vibrant woman that he knows in hiding under all the broken parts.
“When you shut your emotions off to survive, it is nearly impossible to turn them back on, even for someone you care about.”
Unfortunately, Sayer’s damage is maybe more severe than even a skilled fixer such a Jeb can handle, and their relationship experiences a few starts and stops as one fights to make it grow and the other pushes against their feelings for fear it won’t survive.
“She looked like silk, but if my guess was right about her, it was silk wrapped around steel.”
I was excited to read Built because I just loved (most of) the couples in the Marked Men series and I couldn’t wait to get more doses of that feeling. I loved the sexiness and uniqueness, the vibrancy of the characters and stories. Built didn’t deliver the same rush of feelings that some of my MM favorites did. I liked this book, but I didn’t love it. The story was entertaining, and I enjoyed reading it while I was reading it, but I wasn’t drawn to it when I had to put it down. It was close to halfway through the book before I thought it was good, and even then any kind of emotional connection I felt was surface deep.
I don’t love Built as a standalone, but I think it is a good series opener since it sets up what I think will be some intriguing romances. I believe that die-hard fans of Jay Crownover will appreciate this book more than I did, and they’ll love Zeb especially, because he is quite a romantic hero. Plus, Sayer is a smart, relatable heroine (at least to me), even when she frustrates.
Sayer and Zeb are interesting characters with complexity, but their story was lacking something for me. Spark? I don’t know… they had good chemistry, but that certain je ne sais quoi was missing. What I enjoyed the most about Built were the familial elements, the closeness of the surrounding characters, and the backstories of a few more than minor characters who I think might get their own books. I’m looking forward to their stories. So, though I didn’t fall in love with this one, I’m not going to write off the series. If you’re still curious about it, give it a try and tell me what you think.
“She owned me from the very start; now I just needed her to take possession and keep me forever.”
